This is a very late post but I cannot make this pick a best bet or a regular play. With that being said I do have a slight opinion on the Patriots tonight laying the 12 points. The Jets pulled off a win against the Bucs and the Pats didn't look good against the Bills but something tells me that Belichick will be ready to take down the Jets in Primetime and depending on turnovers be able to cover this large spread, but it is only an opinion not a strong play by any stretch of the imagination.

Not exactly the way I would have liked to start out the NFL season but it is what it is. I know that Northcoast lost their Game of the Month with Houston and I know a lot of people paid for it so I still feel bad about my picks but not as bad as the people who bet a boat load of money on the GOM. So below are my stats for week 1 please know I can do better, I would shiver to think I could do worse.

WEEK ONE NFL STATS

BEST BETS      0-3 ATS  and  3-0 SU

Regular plays   0-2 ATS and 0-2 SU

Underdogs    1-1-1 ATS and  0-3 SU

Over/Unders   2-1 ATS

Well I will be back on tomorrow with a pick on the Jets/Pats game.

I sure wish I had put out the over on the Thursday game between Denver and Baltimore, but I didn't.  So here now are my NFL picks for Week 1.

My first best bet is on the late Monday night game and it is on the HOUSTON TEXANS on the road giving the San Diego Chargers 3 1/2 points. I am totally confused by the line on this game, did anyone making the lines on games, watch the Chargers and the Texans last year?? I know Arian Foster is questionable but Schaub and Johnson and Watts and Cushing are playing so this is either a trap game or a gift from the football gods, either way I am backing the Texans over the Chargers and making this a BEST BET

My next best bet this weekend is on the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS on the road giving the Buffalo Bills 10 points. (Smile Brian and you too Jim) The Bills are starting a rookie qb which should have Belichick and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia salvating. To add a stat to this game the Pats are 8-1 ATS the last 9 games in Buffalo, how can you go against that? So I'm taking the Patriots minus the 10 points as a BEST BET.

This week I do have a third best bet and it is the INDIANAPOLIS COLTS at home spotting the Oakland Raiders 10 1/2 points. I like the Colts as they are riding a 6-0 ATS home record and like I always say you can only lose a trend once. With the Raiders finally announcing their starting qb, Terrell Pryor on Tuesday you have got to know there is unrest in the Raiders camp. The Colts may not win as many games this year as last year but they will win and cover this one as the Raiders may only win 1 or 2 games this year. I am making the Colts my final BEST BET of the weekend.

As for regular plays this week I like the Tampa Bay Bucs on the road to cover the 3 1/2 points against the New York Jets. I also like Cleveland Browns at home in a pick em against the Miami Dolphins.

As for underdogs I like the Cincinnati Bengals on the road getting 3 points from the Chicago Bears.  I also like the Arizona Cardinals on the road getting 4 1/2 points from the St. Louis Rams. And I would be remiss if I didn't take the New York Giants on the road getting 3 1/2 points from the Dallas Cowboys.

As for over/unders I like the over 41 1/2 in the Bengals/Bears game, the over 51 in the Patriots/Bills game and the under 39 1/2 in the Bucs/Jets game.

Well that's it for week 1 in the NFL and as always

Remember to bet with your head and not over it.
